The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.” – G.K. Chesterton

Sun, Sand, Sea and Cycling on Coronado Island (California)

It's a fact that I'm still dreaming about the gorgeous blue skies and the sandy beaches of southern California. On the day after arriving in San Diego, we hopped on the ferry and spent half a day on Coronado Island. It is only a short 15 minute ferry ride from downtown San Diego, and the small island is perfect for exploring on bicycle. We hired a couple of bikes and a trailer, and had a great time taking in the beautiful sights and scenery.

At the Coronado Ferry Landing shortly after hiring the bicycles from the bike shop. You can't see him well in the trailer, but the boy is smiling big for the camera:

I kept stopping on my bike to take photos, but after awhile it proved too much effort stopping and then catching up to hubby. The following are some shots I took while riding to the beach on the other side of the island from the ferry pier.

View of the Coronado Bridge that connects the island to San Diego:

Lovely houses, palm trees swaying in the sea breeze and bright clear blue skies:

At Coronado Beach, with fine white sand much like that back in our hometown Perth (Western Australia):

  1. Dear Expat Gourmand,

You are right those fine sandy white beaches do remind me of those in Sydney and Perth.
